I love talking to my kids as much as I love talking about them. I love it when they say something new, something sweet, something thoughtful, something that makes me wonder what goes on in their brains. Sometimes they make me laugh; sometimes they make me worry.

Riding on Two Wheels
Cakes can finally, really ride a two-wheeler! Scott has taken her to the park probably five times in the last two years, taken off the training wheels and let her ride around. She does just fine, but then gets home and refuses to ride without the training wheels so her bike just sits for weeks until Scott puts them back on. Well, last weekend he took her out again and this time she really did it. Ever since then all she wants to do is ride her bike. She hates wearing her helmet, but I insist. She can hate me her whole brain-damage-free life. Literally none of her friends wear helmets. Isn't it a law? I took a few videos but they don't seem to want to load so I'll try again later.

Tell her about my bike accident. I will find her a picture of my scraped up face.
ReplyDeleteI think I have told her about that, but I don't think I added "and that's why you have to wear a helmet." :-)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I remember your dad telling stories about people getting into accidents while riding their bikes and having to go to the emergency room with their brains gushing out of their heads. He told these stories over the pulpit at the branch and I've never forgotten them and decided since then that I would not ride my bike without a helmet.
ReplyDeleteHe also used to tell us the worst thing that happened at work that day, say family prayer and send us to bed. Seemed normal at the time!
